Springs & Things
In the not too distant past the core of the mattress was filled with many differing types of fillings, horse hair, goose feathers, wool and even straw! These mattresses were placed on wooden or metal bedsteads usually on a linked metal mesh.
Today we have a very different approach to making mattresses and beds.
Probably the most important part of any mattress is its core. The core’s job is to absorb and support your body throughout the night in the most efficient and comfortable way possible. During an average 8 hours sleep it is estimated that you twist and turn over 70 times, all that movement requires a sleep system that’s not only strong, but flexible enough to keep you supported night after night, year after year.
Mattresses can be divided up into 3 main categories:
- Open coil springs
- Pocket spring
